Julian Schnabel made a name for himself (throughout the 1980s) as a "neo-expressionist" artist/painter (some of his paintings involved smashed plates glued to wooden panels). His work has been exhibited at art galleries around the world, and he has been known as the "self-proclaimed lion of the New York art world".
